MILTON-FREEWATER — Pendleton used its strength in the field events to win the girls team title at the 90th Carnival of Speed on April 25, 2025, at Shockman Field.

The Bucks compiled 103.5 points to beat second-place Enterprise (77.5) by more than 25 points.

Weston-McEwen, led by Addy Hall, was third (57), followed by Heppner (5th, 51), Elgin (6th, 49.5), Union (10th, 30.5), McLoughlin (11th, 23.5), Umatilla (12th, 20), Griswold (14th, 11), La Grande (14th, 11), Echo (16th, 6.5), Riverside (16th, 6), Pilot Rock (19th, 2) and Powder Valley (20th, 1).

Nessa Neveau won the javelin for the Bucks with a toss of 117-3, with teammate Nicole Somnis second at 16-3. Mac-Hi’s Addy Brown (102-0) was third and Miley Rhoads was fourth with a PR of 101-11.

Ellery Flerchinger placed second in the discus with a season best 104-1.5, with Neveau fifth (95-5.5). Flerchinger also was eighth in the shot put with a PR of 28-8, while teammate Gabrielle Kennedy was fourth (31-9).

In the high jump, Pendleton’s Ava Jackson shared first place with Nyah Johnson of Pine Eagle with a height of 4-10, while McKenna Naughton and Presley Greenwalt tied for fifth at 4-6. Kayle Smith cleared 9-0 in the pole vault to finish.

Moving to the horizontal jumps, Lexie Willman was third for the Bucks at 14-8, while Hazel Case was seventh (14-2). In the triple jump, McKenzie Sheldon was second for Pendleton with a leap of 31-5.5, while Jackson was fourth (29-10).

On the track, Ella Pozar was fifth in the 1,500 (5:30.17), Evelyn Hayes was fifth in the 3,000 with a PR of 13:23.40, and Case was second in the 100 hurdles with a PR of 16.56.

Pendleton finished up its bevy of points in the 4x100 relay. The Bucks finished third as Shelden, Case, Landrie Davis and Shakiya Mulalley posted a time of 52.34.

Hall won both hurdle events for the TigerScots, and set a school record in the 100 hurdles with a PR of 16.14 seconds. The previous record was 16.34. In the 300 hurdles, Hall ran a PR of 48.13 in the 300 hurdles, while teammate Kelsey Graham was third (50.52).

Graham also was fourth in the 100 hurdles with a PR of 16.77. W-M’s 4x100 relay team of Brynn Brownie, Charlotte Hansell, Graham and Hall won its sixth meet this spring with a time of 51.59 — its fastest time this season.

Heppner’s Lily Nichols ran a PR of 2:24.84 to win the 800, and finished second in the 3,000 with a time of 11:13.02. She also was part of the 4x400 relay team with Healy Hisler, Hallee Hisler and Brooklyn Hendricks that finished second with a time of 4:18.38.

Hallee Hisler also was second in the 100 (12.96) and the 200 (26.49), while Healy Hisler was third in the 400 (1:03.10) and eighth in the 200 (28.08).

Hendricks added a seventh place finish in the 1,500 (5:37.51). Elgin’s Sierra Sauers won the discus (108-9) and was fifth in the shot put (31-3), while teammate Carly McLaughlin was third in the 100 hurdles with a PR of 16.69, fourth in the 300 hurdles (52.37), and tied for fourth in the pole vault (7-6).

Josie Patton led Union with a second-place finish in the 1,500 with a PR of 5:03.08, and a third-place finish in the 3,000 (11:29.71). Kaelyn Shoemaker finished fourth in the discus (99-3.5) and sixth in the shot put (29-5), while teammate Jodee Baxter was seventh in the shot put (29-4).

For Griswold, Ellie Morris led the Grizzlies with a third-place finish in the triple jump (31-2), and the 4x100 relay team of Kallie Jo Campbell, Morris, Kylee Rand and Amy Weidert placed fifth with a time of 53.84.

The boys team title came down to the 4x400 relay, which Pendleton’s team of Carter Cary, Jack Reynolds, Kael Kennedy and John Thatcher won with a time of 3:35.15, giving the Bucks two more points than Baker.

Pendleton amassed 104.4 points, while Baker had 102.7. Weston McEwen was a distant third (74.65), while Union was fourth (70).

Thatcher also was second in the 200 with a PR of 23.07, and second in the 400 with a time of 51.10. Reynolds was fourth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:25.87.

Cary picked up a win in the 300 hurdles with a PR of 41.84, and Jaren Yoshioka won the javelin with a PR of 162-2, edging Heppner’s Chris Humphreys, who had a throw of 154-7.

William Michael won the pole vault for the Bucks with a height of 13 feet, with Union’s Preston Mouritsen second (11-0), Mac-Hi’s Dayne Knifong third (10-0) and Irrigon’s Samuel Cole fourth (10-0).

Kennedy had a mighty leap of 20-1.25 to win the long jump, with Umatilla’s Mason Munoz second (19-7.25) and Mac-Hi’s Dakota Smith fourth (19-4.75).

Jaydon Hoffert won the triple jump with a mark of 40-11.5, just beating Baker’s Kane Hellberg (40-9.75). Stanfield’s Jeremiah Swanston was third with a PR of 39-9.5.

Union’s Amos Lewis shattered his own school record in the shot put with a heave of 51-9.

Lewis, who broke a 66-year-old school record on April 13, with a throw of 50-4, won by more than six feet on Friday, with Weston- McEwen’s Jace Dunlap second at 45-8, Pendleton’s Deacon Pace third at 43-8, Umatilla’s Miguel Gutierrez fourth (41-2.5), and

Heppner’s Humphreys fifth (38-4), with teammate Landon McMahon sixth (37-2).

Union’s Jackson Davenport won the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.58, and was second in the 300s with a PR of 42.58. He also was fourth in the 100 with a PR of 11.69.

Baker’s Rasean Jones won the 100 (10.84), 200 (22.49) and 400 (50.14) with PRs in all three races.

Weston-McEwen’s Wyatt Parsons ran a PR of 11.04 in the 100 to place second. Parsons also broke his own school record of 11.14. Parsons also was third in the 200 (23.15) and sixth in the long jump (18-6).

Arden Shaul was a double winner for the TigerScots, winning the 1,500 (4:16.60) by six seconds, and winning the 3,000 with a PR of 9:36.06.

Also for W-M, Logan Ray tied second in the high jump (5-8) with five other jumpers, including teammate Tristan Weseman. Dayton Monaco was sixth in the triple jump (37-3), David Webb was fifth in the 3,000 (10:28.63) and Jace Dunlap was fifth in the discus (113-3).

Heppner’s Humphreys also was sixth in the discus with a mark of 110-7, while Marty Medina was eighth in the 800 (2:11.23), and Joseph Albitre tied for second in the high jump (5-8).

Stanfield’s Jack Sperr won the high jump at 5-10 and was eighth in the long jump (18-3), while Jeremiah Swanston was third in the triple jump (39-9.5).

Riverside’s highlight of the day was its 4x100 relay team of Jeremias Calvillo, Arturo Murguia, Johnathan Lopez and Pedro Chavez that tied for first with Enterprise with a time of 45.80.

Also for the Pirates, Osmin Barrera was second in the 110 hurdles with a PR of 16.75, Eric Pullen was third in the 3,000 (10:14.40), Jaime Calvillo was sixth in the 3,000 (10:47.99).

Noah Walker led Griswold, placing third in the 110 hurdles with a PR of 16.80, fourth in the 300 hurdles (44.93), and was sixth in the 100 with a PR of 11.74.

Umatilla’s 4x400 relay team of Tanner Prindle, Atticus Tesch, Munoz and Maddex Caballero finished second with a time of 3:36.24. Prindle also was fifth in the 800 (2:07.80), and Munoz was sixth in the 200 (23.90).

Pilot Rock’s Carter Ford was third in the 400 with a toe of 52.23. Rounding out the boys teams scores are Umatilla (5th, 46.7), followed by Heppner (7th, 35.7), Riverside (8th, 30), Stanfield (29.5), Mac-Hi (10th, 26.5), Griswold (13th, 16), Irrigon (14th, 11.5), Powder Valley (16th, 8), Pilot Rock (16th, 8) and Elgin (21st, 1.2).

Girls Golf
Heppner had two golfers in the top 10 to win the team title at the Mac-Hi Ladies Invitational at the Milton-Freewater Golf Course.

Sierra Greenup placed third with an 87, and Ashlee Knutz was ninth with a 94 to lead the Mustangs.

Heppner shot a 385 as a team, with Pendleton second at 386, and Umatilla fifth with a 422. Pilot Rock, Echo/Stanfield and La Grande did not find complete teams.

Dufur’s Tygh Timinsky won medalist honors, shooting a 76 with par on seven holes.

Echo/Stanfield’s Denya Valle was second (81), followed by Greenup, Liliana Gutierrez of Umatilla (91) and Kimber Stein of Enterprise (91).

Also scoring for Heppner were Travin Lindsay (98) and Eva Worden (106).

Pendleton was led by Kori Sirovatka and Brinley Curtiss, who each shot a 92, followed by Emma Ware (96) and Kennady Alvarado (106).

Alyssa Bow was second for the Vikings with a 102, followed by Stephanie Rivera (111) and Tiana Ralston (118).

Jacee James shot a 92 for Echo/Stanfield, with Peytin Smith carding a 96.

Sophia Helgeson led Pilot Rock with a 109.

For La Grande, Kiera Hibbert shot a 100, followed by Jane Zastrow (101), and Rauri Vancleave (119).

Boys Golf
MAC-HI’S GENTLEMEN’S INVITATIONAL — Preston Wheeler won medalist honors and led Mac-Hi to the team title at the Milton- Freewater Golf Course.

Wheeler shot a 70, shooting par on 11 holes. Teammate Michael Partin was second with a 72, followed by Enterprise’s Nathan Lamb (75), Dufur’s Klayton Schanno (76) and Mac-Hi’s Nathan Estrada and was fifth with a 77.

The Pioneers ran away with the team title, shooting a 302. Enterprise was second (339), Wallowa/Joseph third (368), Pilot Rock fourth (376) and Echo/Stanfield fifth (382). Weston-McEwen and Umatilla did not field complete teams.

Mac-Hi’s Leo Saldana rounded out the scoring for his team with an 83.

The Rockets were led by Landon Norton and Matthew Wynder, who each shot an 85, while Seth Umpleby had an 89, and Andres Machado a 117.

Triston Horn led the Cougars with an 83, followed by Sutton Osborne (87), Juliyan Gomez (99) and John Blanchet (113).

For Umatilla, Vicente Campos led the way with a 96, while Chase Williams had a 105, and Ed de la Torre shot a 115.
