UMATILLA 13, RIVERSIDE 3 (6) — The Vikings scored five runs in the sixth inning to invoke the mercy rule in an Eastern Oregon League road win over the Pirates.

Umatilla (9-5 overall, 2-3 EOL) scored in every inning, including three in the third and two in the fourth.

Brian Younger-Morris hit a solo home in the fourth inning, and Linkin Zamudio went 2-for4 with a double and two RBIs for the Vikings.

Carter Griggs pitched a complete game for Umatilla, allowing three runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts.

Cooper Cemore and Roberto Lopez each had a double for the Pirates (4-12, 0-5), while Colby Crowell took the loss.

UMATILLA 14, RIVERSIDE 7 — The Vikings scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning for an Eastern Oregon League road win over the Pirates.

It was the first league win for Umatilla (2-9 overall, 1-4 EOL), which ended a four-game slide.

Riverside (1-12, 0-5) led 6-4 after four innings, only to see the Vikings score one in the fifth and two in sixth for a 7-6 lead heading into the seven inning.

Umatilla’s Brooke Gerard went 3-for-4 on the day, driving in the tying run and scoring the go-ahead run in the sixth.

Meghan Owens got the win for the Vikings, and helped her cause at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double.

“She threw a complete game and found a way out of a huge bases- loaded jam with no outs in the bottom of the sixth,” Umatilla coach Erick Olson said. “Maylee Strebin threw well against us and kept us off balance for a lot of the game.”

Boys Golf
UMATILLA INVITE — Hermiston took the top four spots and won the team title Monday at Big River Golf Course in Umatilla.

Colby Lerten took medalist honors with a 78, followed by teammates Lane Simmons (82), Jacoby Rodriguez (93) and Carter Olson (93).

Heppner’s Mason Seitz rounded out the top five with a 95.

The Bulldogs won the team title with a 346, followed by Heppner (409, Echo/Stanfield (419) and Union (427). Weston-McEwen, Umatilla and Pilot Rock did not field complete teams.

Also scoring for Heppner were Jaime Cavan and John Lindsay who tied for 11th with a 101, and Joseph McMasters (21st, 112).

Tristan Horn tied for 8th with a 100 for Echo/Stanfield, while Jose Rodelo was 14th (102), Sutton Osborne was 17th (106) and Julian Gomez tied for 19th with a 111.

Union, which had nine golfers in the field, was led by Vaden Mouritsen, who was seventh with a 99. He was followed by Matthew Hall (15th, 104), Tyler Spellman (18th, 110) and Trenton Baremore (T24th, 114).

For the TigerScots, Theo Sprenger tied for eighth with a 100, while teammate Colby Perkins tied for 21st with a 112.

Landon Norton led the Rockets with a 96, followed by Matthew Wynder (T8th, 100) and Seth Umpleby (T11th, 101).

Umatilla’s Vicente Campos finished 16th with a 105 to lead the Vikings. He was joined by Chase Williams (T19th, 111) and Ed de la Torre (31st, 133).

Girls golf
Umatilla’s Liliana Gutierrez won medalist honors and led the Vikings to the team title Monday at the Umatilla Invite at Big River Golf Course in Umatilla.

The Vikings finished with a 483, just six strokes better than Heppner (489). Union and Echo/Stanfield did not field complete teams.

Gutierrez, a senior, shot a 110 on the day, followed by Heppner’s Travin Lindsay and Sierra Greenup, who each shot a 115, Heppner’s Eva Worden with a 116, and Umatilla’s Alyssa Bow with a 117.

Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs was Mary Ashbeck, who was ninth with a 127.

Also for Umatilla, Stephanie Rivera tied for seventh with a 126, and Tiana Ralston was 12th with a 130.

Jacee James led Echo/Stanfield, placing sixth with a 123, followed by Peytin Smith (T7th, 126) and Mia Leal (T9th, 127).

Union’s lone golfer, Abby Schlegel, finished tied for 14th with a 135.
