BOARDMAN — It was a blustery day at the Columbia River Invite, but that didn’t slow down Pilot Rock’s Carter Ford, who set personal bests Saturday, May 3, in the 100 and 200.
Ford, who clocked an 11.44 in the 100, has the fifth- best time at the 1A level in the state rankings. Ford’s time of 23.26 in the 200 puts him fourth in the state rankings.
Ione’s Henry Giefing, who holds the top time in the state for 1A runners in the 100 (11.35), went down in the 100 meters with an undisclosed injury. Giefing did place third in the long jump earlier in the day with a leap of 19-5.
McLoughlin won the boys team title with 168 points, with host Riverside a distant second at 105.5. Umatilla (72.5) was third, followed by Stanfield (67), Irrigon (59), Pilot Rock (36), Ione (35) and Sherman (26).
Mac-Hi’s Dakota Smith won the 400 with a PR of 56.83, with Ione’s Leo Lemus second at 58.38.
Emanuel Hernandez won the 1,500 for the Pioneers with a 4:45.50, followed by Jaime Calvillo (4:48.66) and Eric Pullen (4:59.36) of Riverside. Pullen also won the 3,000 (10:19.40) with Calvillo second with a PR of 10:38.66.
The 800 meters was a showdown between Riverside’s Nathen Hammond and Ethan Beaty. Beaty led late in the race, but Hammond passed his teammate on the final straightaway to win the race with a PR of 2:07.14. Beaty finished in 2:08.81.
Irrigon’s Brody Parrish and Umatilla’s Larry Sorianio had quite the battle in the hurdles.
Parrish won the 110s with a time 17.57, while Sorianio was second with a PR of 17.84. The tables turned in the 300 hurdles, with Sorianio winning with a PR of 45.49, while Parrish was second at 47.91.
Michael Gutierrez of Umatilla won the discus with a toss of 113-2, and was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 36-1.
Lewis Hansen of Pilot Rock was second in the shot put (36-8) and second in the discus at 106-2.
Ione’s Carter Eynetich placed in all three throwing events. He was third in the shot put (36-5), third in the discus (105-9), and fourth in the javelin (126-5).
Mac-Hi’s Roger Bennett won the high jump (5-4), while teammates Dayne Knifong won the pole vault (10-6) and Dakota Smith won the long jump with a PR of 20-6 and the 400 with a PR of 56.83.
Riverside’s Jeremy Calvillo won the triple jump with a PR of 38-3. He also was fifth in the long jump (18-9).
Stanfield’s Jack Sperr won the javelin with a toss of 133-3, and was second in the long jump with a PR of 20-4. He also was seventh in the 100 with a PR of 12.03, and third in the 200 (24.82).
Mac-Hi won the girls teams title with 159 points, while Riverside was second with 93. Pilot Rock (59) was third, followed by Irrigon (58), Sherman (52), Umatilla (22) and Stanfield (20).
The Pioneers’ Daisy Koklich swept the hurdles, winning the 100s in 18.04, and the 300s in 53.86. She also ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay team with Keely De La Cruz, Addy Brown and Abi Perkins that turned in a time of 55.10.
De La Cruz also won the 100 with a PR of 14 seconds.
Brown won the javelin with a mark of 112 feet, while teammate Miley Rhoads was second with a PR of 103-9. Brown also won the pole vault at 7-6.
Lillie Holman of Pilot Rock won the discus (81-4) and was second in the shot put (27-8), while Alison Warner won the long jump (14-10).
Riverside’s Kaylee Christy won the 200 (30.25) and the 400 (1:07.79).
