CULVER INVITATIONAL — Owen Guerra and Landon McMahon each won a title for Heppner, which finished 10th in a field of 29 teams.

“I was super happy for Owen,” Heppner coach Zac Brown said. “Before, when he would get in those high-profile matches, he’d come up a point or two short. Landon did great too. He weighed in at 226 and was wrestling up a weight. He gives up about 40 pounds.”

Guerra pinned his first four opponents, with none of the matches going past the first round. In the 190-pound title bout, he pinned Aldred Brackenbury in 4:56

Wrestling at 285, McMahon had a bye in the first round, then pinned his next four opponents in the first round. In the finals, he pinned Hayden Belcher of Rainier in 2:27.

“They are team leaders in the wrestling room, in the school and at wrestling tournaments,” Brown said of Guerra and McMahon. “They have had that camaraderie on the offensive line, defense line and from wrestling together. Even my kids who didn’t place, wrestled really well. Once we got done Friday, we had seven of our nine guys make it to the second day.”
