RIVERDALE 54, UMATILLA 39 — The Mavericks posted their third consecutive win with a home victory over the Vikings. Umatilla (5-4) had its two-game win streak snapped.

Boys Basketball
UMATILLA 66, RIVERDALE 24 — Mike McGee poured in 21 points to lead the Vikings to a road win over the Mavericks in Portland.

Umatilla (7-2), which has won five games in a row, got 14 points from McGee in the first quarter to race out to a 28-4 lead.

Bryce Morris scored six of his 10 points in the second as the Vikings enjoyed a 45-9 lead at the half.

McGee and Linkin Zamudio each had four points in the third as Umatilla pulled away for good with an 18-7 run.

Jayden Perches also had 10 points, five rebounds and four steals for Umatilla, while Morris had nine rebounds, and David Garcia seven points and five steals.

Girls Wrestling
Heppner had one champion and finished fourth in the team standings at the Mac-Hi Christmas Tournament.

The Hermiston junior varsity won the team title with 155 points, followed by Walla Walla (118), College Place (79) and Heppner (57).

Weston-McEwen was sixth (41), while Mac-Hi was eighth (26) and Umatilla 10th (22).

Emillia Cavan-Harris won the 145-pound title for Heppner, winning both of her round-robin matches by fall.

Journey Cavan-Harris finished second at 140, losing her first match of the season to Kylie Whitaker of Walla Walla by fall in the championship match.

Sarah Munkers was second at 190, winning two of her three matches in the round-robin format.

Also for the Mustangs, Sarah Estes was third at 140.

Mac-Hi’s lone wrestler, Emily Delarosa, won the 170-pound title. After a bye in the first round, she pinned her next three opponents, including Columbia-Burbank’s Harley Henning in 1:58 in the finals.

The TigerScots got a title from Laila Jones at 235 as she won all three of her matches in a round-robin format.

Also for W-M, Ehlani Barahona was third (105), Brooke Boothman was third (135) and Bella Karas was third (145).

Umatilla’s Shanie Thomas was second at 155, getting pinned by Hermiston’s Jocelyn Silvani in 5:59 in the championship match.

Boys Wrestling
McLoughlin crowned six champions and won the team title at the Mac-Hi Christmas Tournament.

The Pioneers compiled 200 points, while Walla Walla was second with 171 and Heppner third with 132.

Umatilla was seventh (14) and Weston-McEwen was eighth (6).

Mac-Hi’s Nolan Noirot, who received two byes to open the tournament, pinned Walla Walla’s Ryan Oblisk in the semifinals, then pinned Micah Hanafin of College Place in 1:34 in the 215-pound title match.

At 175, the Pioneers got a title from Masyn Lindsey. Lindsey pinned his first two opponents, then posted a 17-4 major decision over Walla Walla Walla’s Carter Bishop in the finals.

Dallen Duncan improved to 16-2 on the season, pinning all four of his opponents to win the 150-pound title. In the championship match, Duncan pinned Christian McFeron of Walla Walla in 1:57.

Tyler Hoel picked up the 144- pound title for the Pioneers, winning by fall in the quarterfinals and semifinals, then recorded a 17-1 technical fall over Ryan Spino of The Dalles in the finals.

At 138, where there was a round-round bracket, Bradley Watco won all three of his matches to win the title.

The Pioneers wrapped up their championship run with a title by William Nunes at 106. In a round-robin format, Nunes won two of his three matches for the title.

Colt Koklich placed second at 132 for Mac-Hi, losing the championship match by technical fall (16-1) to Luke Patterson of Enterprise.

Marshall Koch was second for the Pioneers at 157. Walla Walla’s Yureth Gomez pinned Koch in 1:05 in the championship match.

Nehemiah Garred was second at 165, winning two of his three matches in the round-robin format.

Also for Mac-Hi, Braydn Beck was third at 120, and Damian Newbern was fourth at 126.

Heppner had three champions on the day, including Landon McMahon, who improved to 19-0 and won the 285-pound title.

McMahon pinned all four of his opponents, two of which did not last 40 seconds. In the championship match, McMahon pinned Emmett Cunningham of Enterprise in 1:15.

Owen Guerra had two byes to start the tournament at 190 pounds. He then pinned Amado Munoz of College Place in 41 seconds, then pinned Walla Walla’s Lukas Chambers in 57 seconds in the title match.

Zion Ramos-Lopez won the 120-pound title for the Mustangs, posting a 19-2 technical fall in the semifinals, then pinning Walla Walla’s Ryder Hubbard in 1:14 in the finals.

Jaxson Wight was second at 113 for the Mustangs, losing the title match by technical fall (16-0) to Barrett Bronson of Enterprise.

At 138, Matt Wilson placed second for Heppner, winning two of his three matches in the round-robin format.

Also for the Mustangs, Kooper Miller was fourth at 215.

For Umatilla, Kyle Carlton was fourth at 157 pounds.
