SALEM — Mike McGee had 21 points, seven rebounds and six steals, and Umatilla rang in the New Year with a 72-37 victory over New Hope Christian on Thursday night in the first round of Black Bracket at the Crusader Classic at Salem Academy High School.

McGee scored 10 of his points in the first quarter as the Vikings jumped out to a 26-8 lead in the first quarter. Umatilla stretched its lead to 47-23 at the half with David Garcia leading the way with six points.

McGee finished his night in the third quarter with seven points as the Vikings had a 67-31 lead.

Benny Soto added 12 points and four assists for Umatilla, while Jayden Perches had 11 points and seven rebounds, and Garcia had 10 points, five assists and three steals.

Warriors (4-5) were led by Will Burman and Joey Lyon, who each had 10 points.

Umatilla (8-2), which has won six in a row, will take on Amity at 1 p.m. Friday in the semifinals.
