Girls Wrestling
Pendleton, behind the strength of four champions, won the Viking Invitational at Umatilla High School with 121.5 points.
Riverside was a distant second (84), while Irrigon was fourth (43), Heppner sixth (38), Umatilla eighth (28.5) and Weston-McEwen 10th (25).
Pendleton dominated the upper weights, winning titles at 155, 170, 190 and 235.
Thiri Dahl won the 155-pound title, winning both of her opponents. She pinned Bella Karas of Weston-McEwen in the finals in 1:19.
At 170, Madison Chase pinned all three of her opponents in the first round, including Sylvia Pimley of Columbia White Salmon in 39 seconds in the title bout.
Harlee James dominated at 190 winning by major decision in the quarterfinals, by fall in the semis, and she posted a 15-0 technical fall over Ontario’s Carmela Rodriguez in the finals.
At 235, Gabby Kennedy won both of her matches by fall for the title. She pinned Cinthia Madrigal of Irrigon in 1:41 in the championship match.
Also for the Bucks, Devon Scott was second at 130, and Tinley Foster was third at 130.
Riverside’s Adalia Chavez won a title at 115 pounds, pinning all three of her opponents in 45 seconds or less. In the finals, she pinned Annika Winona of Pomeroy in 28 seconds.
At 125, Megan Wiseman finished first, winning all three of her matches by fall. She pinned Pendleton’s Hazel Case in 3 minutes in the title bout.
Also for the Pirates, Leiliana Lissman was second at 105, getting pinned in the championship match by Allison Smith of River View in 1:44.
Clarissa Hernandez was third at 105, Rebecca Glenn was third at 190, Bella Martinez was fourth at 105, and Allie Schuler was fourth at 125.
Irrigon’s Roxy Solis won the 120-pound title, pinning Eda O’Connor of Columbia While Salmon in 1:15.
Also for the Knights, Sara Akers was fourth at 155, and Raygan Nelson was fourth at 190.
Sarah Estes won the 140-pound title for Heppner, pinning River View’s Tatum Cram in 3:56 in the championship match. Also for the Mustangs, Sarah Munkers was third at 190.
Umatilla saw Rylee Sanchez place third at 155 and Brooklynn Sanchez fourth at 140.
Georgianne Morris was fourth at 170 for Weston-McEwen.
Boys Wrestling
Irrigon crowned four champions and won the team title at the Viking Invitational at Umatilla High School.
The Knights rolled up 169 points, with the Hermiston JV second (158) and Riverside third (123). The Pendleton JV was fourth (114.5), Heppner sixth (93), Umatilla 10th (39.5) and Weston-McEwen 12th (7).
Anthony Vasquez won the 113-pound title for the Knights, pinning all three of his opponents. In the finals, he pinned Matthew Herrera of Hermiston in 1:22.
Lee Issel picked up the 132-pound title, earning a 13-5 major decision over Riverside’s Leonel Vargas in the finals. On the day, Issel also had a technical fall, a fall and a 13—2 major decision over Julian Ortega of Riverside in the semifinals.
Preston Slawson pinned all three of his opponents at 138 to win the title. Slawson pinned teammate Brody Parrish in the finals in 3:09.
At 144 pounds, Colton Akers won the title for the Knights, pinning Jackson Gunderson of Hermiston 5:53. Akers pinned all four of his opponents, with the quickest pin of 15 seconds coming in the quarterfinals against Pendleton’s Westin Loiland.
Also for Irrigon, Jakson Coffman was second at 120, and Carlos Mendoza was third at 175.
Riverside had a champion in Alexis Amaya at 175. Amaya pinned all three of his opponents, including Kolt McQuinn of Pendleton in the finals in 2:29.
Also for the Pirates, Angel Madrigal was second at 106, Nikolai Rockwell was second at 126, Treyvin VanNostren was third at 285, Sam Lopez was third at 138, and Julian Ortega was third at 132.
Pendleton had one champion in Adam Urbina at 165. Urbina pinned all three of his opponents. In the finals, he won by fall over Robert Grabb IV of Columbia White Salmon in 2:34.
Also for the Bucks, Aiden Cox was third at 120, Carter Northern was third at 144, Colston Zimmerman was fourth at 138, and Kaleb Lillie was fourth at 285.
Heppner had two champions, starting with Owen Guerra at 190.
Guerra posted a 19-4 technical fall over Cyrus Derowitsch of Irrigon in the quarterfinals, then needed just 13 seconds to pin Emmett Stillman of Enterprise in the semifinals. Int he finals, Guerra pinned Kole Zimmerman of Pomeroy in 4:37.
Landon McMahon, who is undefeated this season, shed 14 pounds to drop from 285 to 215, where he pinned all four of his opponents to win the title.
McMahon pinned Chris Davis of River View in 55 seconds in the first round, then pinned Manuel Rodriguez-Ochoa of Riverside in 1:36 in the quarterfinals. In the semis, McMahon pinned Emilio Romero of Irrigon in 3:23.
In the championship match, McMahon won by fall over Peyton Cannon of Pomeroy in 1:48.
Also for the Mustangs, Jaxson Wright was third at 113, and Kaden King was third at 165.
For Umatilla, Kyle Carlton was third at 157, and Jessee Savage was fourth at 113.
