STANFIELD 57, UMATILLA 40 — Kayla Monkus had a game-high 20 points, and the Tigers rallied for a nonleague road win over the Vikings.
Peytan Fullerton hit three 3s in the first quarter as the Vikings (6-8) took a 14-9 lead.
The sixth-ranked Tigers (8-3) turned things around in the second quarter as Taylor Sperr scored eight of her 15 points in a 24-8 run that gave Stanfield a 33-22 lead at the half.
Stanfield stayed one step ahead of Umatilla in the second half, using a 24-18 run to win its fourth game in a row.
Kahleigha Haney added 14 points for Stanfield, while Sperr hauled down 12 rebounds.
Shay McCallister led Umatilla with 14 points, while Fullerton added 13.
Boys Basketball
STANFIELD 57, UMATILLA 56 — Antonio Galindo hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to help the Tigers to a nonleague road win over the Vikings.
“Resilience,” Stanfield coach Rylie Smith said. “We had a similar close game versus Trinity that we didn’t finish, but it was a good experience so that we could be ready for endings like that. Really proud of our guys for competing til the end. Umatilla wasn’t going to go away without giving us their best.”
Sixth-ranked Stanfield (8-4) led 15-7 after the first quarter, and 29-25 at the half.
David Garcia scored nine of his 25 points in the third quarter as the Vikings (10-3) rallied to tie the score at 40-40 heading into the fourth quarter.
Alex Angel led Stanfield with 23 points, while Zander Wright added 13 and Aaron Sanchez 11.
Linkin Zamudio added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Umatilla, while Mike McGee chipped in seven points and nine rebounds.
