UMATILLA 64, MCLOUGHLIN 47 — Mike McGee poured in 26 points and hauled down 10 rebounds to lead the Vikings to an Eastern Oregon League road win over the Pioneers.

Mac-Hi (5-15 overall, 1-6 EOL) took a 14-7 lead in the first quarter, getting five points from Matthew Humbert.

Umatilla got back on track in the second quarter as McGee and David Garcia each had eight points to give the Vikings a 25-23 lead at the half.

The Vikings (12-9, 3-4) outscored the Pioneers 37-24 in the second half to pull away for the win and snap a four-game losing streak.

Garcia added 19 points and three assists for the Vikings, while Jayden Perches had nine points and nine rebounds.

Humbert led Mac-Hi with 17 points, while Tucker Brunot had 10.

UMATILLA 55, MCLOUGHLIN 29 — Jayde Escamilla had a game-high 17 points to lead the Vikings to an Eastern Oregon League road win over the Pioneers.

Umatilla (10-11 overall, 4-3 EOL) held a 10-7 lead after the first quarter, then went on a 20-5 run in the second for a 30-12 lead at the half.

The Vikings went on a 25-17 run in the second half to put the game away.

EvaLynn Camps added 12 points for the Vikings.

Miley Rhoads led the Pioneers (2-18, 1-6) both 10 points, while Maddie Stiefel added eight.

HEPPNER — Riverside each crowned two champions Saturday at the Bank of Eastern Oregon Tournament at Heppner High School, while Heppner, Elgin and McLoughlin each had one.

“It was good competition today,” McLoughlin coach Darrin Parsons said. “There were three or four state champions that wrestled there today. We had kids win 50/50 matches today, which is positive for us. It was a big deal.”

The 17-team tournament, which features 1A to 3A teams, saw Burns win the team title with 190 points, just edging Culver, which had 188.5.

Riverside finished fourth (153), while Mac-Hi was fifth (135.5), Irrigon sixth (117.5), Heppner seventh (89.5) and Elgin eighth (82.5). Umatilla was 13th with 36 points, while Imbler was 14th (23.5) and Weston- McEwen 17th (5).

Riverside’s first title came at 132, where Leonel Vargas earned an 18-15 decision over Ezra Sanabria of Culver in the title match.

Vargas opened the day with a 1:20 pin of Levi Olney of Irrigon, followed by a 19-second pin of Judah Trump of Culver. In the semis, Vargas beat Henry Barnes of Burns 8-7.

Fernando Medina won the 285-pound title for the Pirates, winning by injury default over teammate Treyvin VanNostren. Medina opened the day with a bye, then pinned Raymond Hawley of Carne in 1:01. In the semis, Medina pinned Emmett Cunningham of Enterprise in 1:53.

Andrew Calderon was second for the Pirates at 150. He lost a 12-2 major decision to Noah Cory of Culver in the championship match.

Also for Riverside, Angel Madrigal was third at 106, Julian Ortega was fourth at 132, Byron Brindis was fifth at 113, Nikolai Rockwell was sixth at 126, and Jose Pena was sixth at 175.

The host Mustangs saw Landon McMahon win the 215-pound title with a 2-0 decision over Culver’s Coby Holmes, recording escapes in the second and third rounds.

McMahon, who ran his season record to 47-0, opened the day with a 59-second pin of Landon Harlan of Pine Eagle, followed by a pin of Burns’ Wesley Graham in 1:06. In the semifinals, he pinned Crane’s Alex Camacho in 1:25.

Owen Guerra placed second at 190 pounds for Heppner, starting the day with a bye, followed by a 20-second pin of Bryce Eckhart of Imbler. In the semis, Geurra pinned Everett Vardanega of Grant Union in 4:23. In the championship match, Guerra was pinned by Tyson Breshears of Burns in 2:49.

Also for the Mustangs, Kaden King was third at 165, winning his placing match with a 1:27 pin of Nehemiah Garred of Mac-Hi. Connor Wilson was fifth at 157, and Jaxson Wight was sixth at 113.

Mac-Hi’s Dallen Duncan won the 144-pound title, pinning his first three opponents before earning a 4-1 decision over Preston Hill of Burns in the title bout.

“It was a really good day and a special day for Dallen,” Parsons said. “He won his 100th varsity match, which is a big deal.”

Duncan opened the tournament with a 1:30 pin of John Grant of The Dalles/Dufur, followed by a 31-second pin of Andy Nichols of Joseph/ Wallowa. In the semis, he pinned Bryan Camacho of Grant Union in 1:40.

Tyler Hoel was third for the Pioneers, pinning Kaden Torres of Culver in 2:53 in the placing match.

At 175, Masyn Lindsey was third for Mac-Hi, winning the placing match with a 3:23 pin of Logan Arnold of Elgin.

Nolan Noirot, who lost to Holmes in the semifinals, battled back to finish third, pinning Riverside’s Manuel Rodriguez-Ochoa in 1:48.

“The Holmes kid who beat Nolan was really good,” Parsons said. “I don’t think Nolan has wrestled anyone like him all year.”

Also for the Pioneers, Elijah Kerr was sixth at 157, and Marshall Koch was fifth at 150.

Preston Slawson led Irrigon, placing second at 138. Slawson pinned his first two opponents of the day, then won by technical fall (16-1) over Hoel.

In the finals, Slawson lost a 12-8 decision to Taylor Parsons of Grant Union. It was just the third loss of the season for Slawson.

Also for the Knights, Anthony Vasquez was third at 113, Jakson Coffman was third at 120, Colton Akers was fourth at 144, Lee Issel was fifth at 126, Bradley Marietta was sixth at 132, and Cyrus Derowitsch was sixth at 190.

Landyn Fincher won the 126-pound title for Elgin, winning by technical fall in all four of his matches to improve to 42-3 on the season.

Fincher beat Riggin Dowdy of Grant Union 216 to open the day, followed by a 23-4 win over Colt Koklich of Mac-Hi, and an 18-3 win over Hayden Cornell of Burns.

In the finals, Fincher beat Cody Weseman of Grant Union 21-6. Lucas Fincher was second at 106 for the Huskies, losing the championship match to Ethan Stampke of Burns 11-7. Fincher beat Kayleb Rodgers of Grant Union 15-0 in the quarterfinals, then pinned Marion Nicholes of Adrian in 50 seconds in the semis.

Also for the Huskies, Kadin Allen was sixth at 150.

Anthony Pallis was the lone Imbler wrestler to reach the podium, placing second at 165. Pallis won his quarterfinal match by technical fall (21-5) over Ukiah Snapp of Grant Union, then won by medical forfeit over Wyatt Thomas of Adrian in the semis.

In the championship match, Pallis lost a 13-4 major decision to Jerett Waddel of Grant Union.

Both of Umatilla’s wrestlers placed, with Kyle Carlton third at 157, and Jessie Savage fourth at 120.

Carlton won his placing match with a 7-6 decision over Scott Graham of Burns.

Savage lost his third-place match 17-9 to Coffman of Irrigon.

Girls Wrestling
Bank of Eastern Oregon - All 10 of Riverside’s wrestlers placed, and the Pirates won the team title at Heppner High School.

The Pirates compiled 88 points to take home the team trophy, while Irrigon was second with 69 points, and Heppner third with 68.

McLoughlin was eighth (24), Weston-McEwen 12th (22.5), Umatilla 14th (17) and Imbler 16th (5).

Megan Wiseman brought home a title for Riverside at 130 pounds. She pinned her first opponent in 57 seconds, then won by technical fall 17-1 over Lexi Flores of Irrigon in the semifinals. In the championship match, Wiseman won by technical fall 20-1 over Daylynn Hunt of Culver.

Rebecca Glenn was second at 170, pinning her first three opponents before getting pinned by Mac-Hi’s Emily Delarosa in 5:41 in her final match.

Clarissa Hernandez was second at 100, winning by fall in her first three matches, before losing a 20-3 to Emma Nicholes of Adrian.

Also placing second was Adalia Chavez at 115, who won her first three matches by fall. In her final match, she lost a 13-10 decision to Kaylee Eaves of Enterprise.

At 100 pounds, Bella Martinez was third for the Pirates, and Kamila Rangel was fourth.

Also for the Pirates, Allie Schuler was third at 130, Selene Arriaga was third at 155, Yamileth Hernandez was third at 170, and Aylin Hernandez was fifth at 115.

Sara Akers won the 155-pound title for Irrigon, winning both of her matches, including a pin of Grant Union’s Emily Ford in 3:28.

Roxy Solis added a second-place finish at 120. She won three matches by fall, but was pinned by Brooklyn Bennett of Pine Eagle in 4:36.

Also for the Knights, Angela Ramos was third at 120, Ashley Villanueva was fourth at 170, Natalie Hernandez was fourth at 235, Emma Macomber was fifth at 135, Raygan Nelson was fifth at 235, and Lexi Flores was sixth at 130.

Heppner had six wrestlers, and all placed in the top four.

Sarah Estes won her first two matches by fall to reach the 135-pound finals, where she was pinned by Coral Averett of Burns in 1:18.

Journey Cavan-Harris added a second-place showing at 145, winning by fall and decision to reach the finals. In the championship match, Cavan-Haris lost a 9-1 major decision to April Lopez of Crane.

Sarah Munkers was third at 235, winning her placing match with a 4:51 pin of Natalie Hernandez of Irrigon.

Placing fourth for the Mustangs were Loren Trujillo (115), Harlee Cotton (130) and Emillia Cavan-Harris (145).

Mac-Hi’s Delarosa pinned all four of her opponents to win the 170- pound title.

“You look at her and she is solid,” Mac-Hi coach Darrin Parsons said. “She goes out and beats people. She’s a gamer.”

Weston-McEwen’s Laila Jones was second at 235, winning her first three matches before getting pinned by Burns’ Megan Weil in 57 seconds in her final match.

Also for the TigerScots, Ehlani Barahina was fifth at 100 pounds.

For Umatilla, Rylee Sanchez was third at 145, and Brooklynn Sanchez was sixth at 145.

Imbler’s Paytan Bittner was fifth at 170.
