Students wearing crazy socks

Fridays just got more exciting at McNary Heights Elementary! For the past few years, MHES has hosted “Fab Fridays” to support strong attendance, and this year the school is adding simple, fun dress-up themes for students to enjoy. The first theme, crazy sock day, took place on November 14.

The goal of Fab Fridays is to give students something fun and positive to look forward to each week. Vice Principal Ms. Lorence shared that students were “so excited to show off the socks they were wearing” as they got off the bus that morning.

Each Friday will feature a new theme, with options that are easy for all students to participate in. This Friday, November 21, will be Mustache Day.

MHES is also continuing its Fab Friday raffle tradition from last year. Every student who arrives on time and is present receives a raffle ticket. Later that morning, one winner is drawn and gets to choose either to invite three friends to have lunch with them and Ms. Lorence, or to have Ms. Lorence join their entire class for lunch.

School leadership chose to focus on Fridays after noticing that attendance was lower than on any of the other school days. They also wanted to emphasize that important instruction takes place on Fridays and that being present the full week is essential for student success.
