Students in the FCCLA program are gaining real-world experience this week after completing cashier training on the district's new point-of-sale (POS) system. The training allows students to accept debit and credit card payments while operating the Viking Cafe during home basketball games.
FCCLA members run the Viking Cafe during home games and are gearing up for the Friday, January 9, matchup against Vale. They will host a Burger Night, offering a burger meal with fries and a shake for purchase. The Viking Cafe also features themed menus throughout the season, with Pizza Night planned for next Tuesday’s home game.
For students, the new system is something they have been eager to use.
“This is something that we have been wanting since joining FCCLA,” said Daniela Lopez, a 12th-grade FCCLA member.
The POS system not only makes it easier and more convenient for families and fans to pay, but it also provides students with additional hands-on training. FCCLA members already gain experience in areas such as food service, teamwork, and customer service, and learning how to operate a professional payment system adds another skill they can carry into future careers.
FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is a student organization focused on preparing members for careers and life through leadership development, real-world skills, and hands-on learning opportunities. Through programs like the Viking Cafe, students apply classroom learning in a practical setting while building confidence, responsibility, and professional skills.
