Reading took center stage at McNary Heights Elementary School last week as the school celebrated Read Across America Week with a variety of activities, including a special event for families, Family Reading Night. The event took place on March 5 and invited families to join teachers for storytime and learn ideas for supporting their readers at home.
More than 100 students and family members attended the event, where teachers read stories as families gathered to listen. Students also received a free book and had the opportunity to read it to their families, giving them the chance to practice their skills and build confidence.
At the event, families were also introduced to Sora, a digital reading app that allows students to borrow ebooks and audiobooks from their school’s online library. Using their school logins, students can browse a wide selection of titles and read or listen to books on a computer, tablet, or phone. Staff showed families how to log in and navigate the platform so students can continue reading both at school and at home.
Thank you to the families who attended and to the staff who helped organize the event!
