Coach Coyle, Seniors who threw the first pitch, dust devils player, and participant of Dust Devils Youth Clinic

On Sunday, April 18th, the Umatilla High School baseball team attended a Tri-Cities Dust Devils game, continuing a growing tradition for the program.

The team was treated to a pre-game brunch at the stadium, giving players a chance to take in the atmosphere before the game. Afterwards, seniors David Garcia, Brian Younger, and Carter Griggs, stepped onto the field to throw out ceremonial first pitches, getting to represent Umatilla in front of the crowd.

“My first pitch for the dust devils was an awesome experience. Being able to throw from where the pros do was something I’ve always dreamt of,” said Carter Griggs.

Accompanied by Head Coach Tracy Robertson and Coach Ian Coyle, the team enjoyed more than just a day at the ballpark. The experience continues to build on a tradition that began last year and has quickly become something that Umatilla players look forward to each season. Last year, the team also had the opportunity to watch the Dust Devils in a game and were able to tour the Dust Devils facility.

The Dust Devils have been a valued partner in making this event possible, not only by hosting the team, but also by supporting Umatilla Baseball and the booster club through ticket donations for fundraising efforts over the years. Umatilla Baseball is grateful for the continued support of the Tri-Cities Dust Devils in helping create these memorable opportunities for student-athletes.

“Its been great to have built a relationship with the Dust Devils front office that allows us to provide an opportunity for our athletes to get a chance to experience some high level baseball. They get a chance to see how much work those guys put in and we get to talk through baseball situational strategies in real time with them. I’m thankful for the partnership we have with the Dust Devils organization and I know they enjoy having our kids out there.”
