(Umatilla) -- On Sunday, October 31, a small group of McNary USA runners traveled to Monmouth, Oregon for the Stumptown Middle School Championships at Western Oregon University. The students were Jose Campos (5th Grade), Brayan Ramirez Garcia (5th Grade), Mareli Ramirez Garcia (4th Grade), Genesis Cortes (4th Grade), and Heidi Serrano (4th Grade).

There were 300 runners in each race. The top McNary male runner was Jose Campos, who got 108th place and the top female runner was Mareli Ramirez Garcia who got 103rd.

Stephanie Williams-Strege, STEAM Program Director, accompanied the student runners along with Tim Young, McNary USA Coach, to Monmouth. Williams-Strege said she and Young were very proud of the McNary runners, who were competing against sixth through eighth-graders. “Our runners did an amazing job at the meet, and we were so excited they were able to travel and compete,” Williams-Strege said.

McNary USA cross country running is part of the STEAM after-school program at Umatilla School District.
