Last Thursday, Clara Brownell had their final Cafeteria Taste-Test of the year! FoodCorp member, Teena, served delicious fruit-infused water. This refreshing and healthy drink featured a blend of strawberries, blueberries, regular water, and for an added twist, coconut water. Several of the students loved it! — ¡El jueves pasado, Clara Brownell tuvo su última Prueba de Sabor en la Cafetería del año! Teena, miembro de FoodCorp, sirvió una deliciosa agua con infusión de frutas. Esta bebida saludable fue hecha con fresas, arándanos, agua normal y, para darle un toque adicional, agua de coco. ¡A varios de los estudiantes les encantó!

Last Friday, May 19, the students of the Umatilla STEAM Academy Afterschool Program had an amazing opportunity to travel to the Shiki Restaurant in Hermiston, OR. This field trip was a part of their "all things Anime" class, which includes learning about the history of Anime, watching movies, practicing their drawing skills, developing stories, and, of course, indulging in their favorite cuisine - Sushi! For many of the students, it was not only their first time eating Sushi but also their first time using chopsticks. Thank you to the STEAM Academy for making this experience possible for our students! — El pasado viernes 19 de mayo, los estudiantes del programa Umatilla STEAM Academy tuvieron la increíble oportunidad de viajar al restaurante Shiki en Hermiston, OR. Esta excursión fue parte de su clase de "todo lo relacionado con el anime", que incluye aprender sobre la historia del anime, ver películas, practicar sus habilidades de dibujo, desarrollar historias y, por supuesto, disfrutar de su cocina favorita: ¡sushi! Last week, the After School STEAM students had a blast! They created "seed bombs'' using soil and seeds, and then tossed them into different areas around the high school track. The students are eagerly waiting to see bursts of colors that will hopefully pop up in the coming weeks from the wildflowers. In addition, the students also had a great time exploring scientific concepts such as density properties and osmosis. — ¡La semana pasada los estudiantes de STEAM de After School se divirtieron mucho! Crearon "bombas de semillas" usando tierra y semillas, y luego las plantaron en diferentes áreas alrededor de la pista de la escuela secundaria. On Friday night, we had the pleasure of celebrating our Bridge Builder award recipients at the Umatilla Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Citizens Award Banquet. Congratulations to our Family Liaisons and PTO founders, Chuchy Sanchez and Ashlee White, and Dual Language Kinder Teacher Jessica Garcia Quezada on their well-deserved recognition! We were also excited to witness the recognition of MHES paraprofessional Carrie Holmes as Umatilla Citizen of the Year and Columbia Harvest Foods as Business of the Year. We truly appreciate you all for your commitment to our community!
